Since 2018, femLENS has been proudly producing We See magazine – a unique platform that showcases the creative work of women who have historically been excluded from the discourse due to economic, geographic, or cultural barriers. With the advent of technological advancements, photography has become more accessible to a wider group of people who have never had access to large audiences before.
Our magazine features the work of women who have participated in our documentary photography workshops, showcasing their talents and creative perspectives. Additionally, we feature photography projects from our friends and audience and produce in-house articles. We have published seven issues of We See to date, each showcasing unique and compelling stories captured through the lenses of our contributors.
Our team of volunteer writers, editors, and designers produces We See entirely in-house. We are proud that our magazine does not advertise or sell anything and that it truly represents the community we serve. The production process starts by collecting photographic stories and articles that fit with the magazine’s theme and style throughout the year. Once the content is ready, we edit and proofread the articles and create a layout design for the magazine using InDesign, keeping in mind the overall theme and style of the publication. We then use Blurb, a self-publishing platform, to upload the final version of the magazine, making it accessible for everyone to order a printed copy.
To promote the magazine, we use social media, email, and other marketing channels to reach a larger audience. We continue to produce and publish new issues of We See magazine every year, keeping the content fresh and relevant to the theme and style of the publication. We also feature women from socially and culturally diverse backgrounds, furthering our commitment to showcasing diverse perspectives in documentary photography.
We believe that We See magazine offers a rare point of view in the currently crowded media landscape. It is a printed magazine made by the community that provides both visual and traditional storytelling by women. We are pleased that our magazine has a special role to play in the cultural production of modern society. We are committed to continuing to produce We See magazine and to showcase women from socially and culturally diverse backgrounds. Through our publication, we hope that our readers may find inspiration for a project or learn something new.
You can download or order a printed copy of the magazine.
