“I was raised amongst needles, threads and thimbles”
I treasure those seaming afternoons with my grandmother, my mother and my aunts, with the shouts of children playing outside.
With these photographs I wish to pay homage to the women of Torrox; those housewives that took care of the house chores and their offspring, helped their husbands out in the fields and still managed to find time for various types of needlework: hand embroidery, bobbin lace, crochet, fabric painting, thus contributing to their family’s income.
Nowadays, these older women no longer do it for economic support, but to carry on the legacy to the new generations who continue performing this craftsmanship. Furthermore, these works of art are passed down the generations to treasure and honour their ancestors.
