In June 2025, femLENS was granted ECOSOC Special Consultative Status by the United Nations Economic and Social Council. This is a significant recognition that opens up new opportunities to bring the voices, stories, and visual work of women in our community into global conversations.

Holding ECOSOC Special Consultative Status means that femLENS can now:
– Submit written and oral statements to UN bodies
– Participate in high-level meetings such as the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW)
– Co-host or speak at side events and advocacy forums
– Join global NGO coalitions working on gender equality, media literacy, and civic participation

This recognition not only validates the work of our team and collaborators—it gives femLENS a powerful tool to advocate for systemic change and visibility. From photo stories about migrant women’s daily lives to community-led visual research on gender-based violence, the work we support can now reach policymakers and international audiences with more impact.

Over the coming year, femLENS will use this platform to submit statements, develop visual policy briefs, and invite participants and partners to contribute to international advocacy efforts. We see this as a collective milestone, one that belongs to every woman who has contributed her voice, her story, or her lens.

If you’re interested in contributing, collaborating, or simply following along as we take this next step, we invite you to stay connected.
